International Poker Players Association Championship
Venue: Monte Carlo Casino
Date: 29th November – 2nd December 2010
Buy-in: $250,000
Game Type: No Limit Texas Hold em Shootout
Field: limited to 48 players
Prize Pool: $12,000,000

With a small field of players entering the championship tournament maybe a better alternative to the World Series of Poker events. Top poker pros will not need to survive through 6000 + players like the WSOP main event.

So far there are several big names in poker already signed up for the event which guarantees first place $5 million. High stakes poker pros Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius, Johnny Chan, Tony G, Gus Hansen, Huck Seed, Freddy Deeb, Robert Mizrachi and Michael Mizrachi are just some of the names who have already registered for this years championship event.

The IPPA Championship event was canceled last year because it was originally meant to be a H.O.R.S.E. event which failed to attract enough players because of the format. The IPPA organizers decided to changed this years event to a No Limit Texas Hold em Shootout tournament which is more preferred game format amongst the High Stakes Poker players.

The event will be televised so viewers around the world can see all the action on TV. There is already a tough playing field with the likes of  Full Tilt Poker pros Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan ready to play for the $5 million first place prize.

Maybe Phil Ivey sees this event as a great opportunity to increase his lead on the all time money poker list where he is currently at the top with $13,545,958 in poker career earnings. PokerStars Daniel Negreanu is just behind Ivey in second place with $12,751,699.
