The EPT (European Poker Tour) have uncovered plans to host the first ever PokerStars.com European Poker Tour awards. The EPT award ceremony has been implemented in order to honour the people in the poker industry most deserving of accolades in particular those whom have performed at the highest level with exceptional performances during this fourth season European Poker Tour season.
Seven categories have been decided on and the nominees will become known during September, two of the categories for awards will have open voting where either the general public or EPT accredited media will have the final say in regards to the outcome of the winners.
A panel of four "poker experts" will have the say on the remaining five accolades of Pokerstars EPT award ceremony they will include John Duthie who launched the European Poker Tour, he was a TV producer and director, was the first poker player to win $1000000 in a televised poker tournament and the creator of the EPT. Lee Jones a poker player and author who was a former poker room manager at PokerStars.com for a period of five years. Victoria Coren the writer, TV presenter plus Team PokerStars Pro, Book author plus has written newspaper and magazine articles, hosted TV and radio shows as a player won the London stretch of the EPT in 2006. John Caldwell the editor of PokerNews, who has 15 years in music management.
The categories will be made up of Best Newcomer, Best Performance, Best Overseas Player, Best PokerStars Qualifier and EPT Player of the Year all will be judged by their performance during the fourth season, nominees for all categories will be announced soon with the winners in all categories set to be announced at the first ever EPT Awards ceremony which will be held at Opium Mar in Barcelona, Spain on 9th September 2008.
The timing of the ceremony is timed to correspond with the eve of the EPT's Season 5 opening event which will be the Barcelona Open.
